MedSurg travel nurses enjoy variety in their practice.
MedSurg travel nursing is perfect for the RN looking for new experiences. They provide adult care before and after medical procedures and surgeries. Medical-surgical RN responsibilities include daily assessments, post-surgical assessments, and coordinating care procedures. Additionally, these nurses continuously evaluate the patient’s health status while administering medication and performing standardized care routines. Most med-surg nurses carry a heavier patient load than ICU RN’s, often handling 5-7 patients at any given time. On any given shift, a Med-Surg nurse could care for a patient suffering from an animal bite, a patient with diabetes, a patient recovering from a transplant, and a patient with asthma.
On a med-surg unit. you are likely to perform a variety of responsibilities. You must be able to insert foley catheters, start IV’s, change different kinds of dressings, give different types of medication, complete charting, admit patients, and discharge patients. Subsequently, med-surg nurses need to have extensive knowledge in many areas of patient focus and be able to care for many patients with compassion.
