Temporary License Processing
It takes approximately 5 to 10 business days to receive a temporary license in West Virginia after the board has received all necessary documents and the license will last for up to 180 days (must not have any prior convictions or disciplinary action to obtain).

Application will be abandoned after 6 months if not complete, and a new application must be submitted.
Temporary licenses are only issued while other required documents are being processed. There are additional steps that must be completed to receive a permanent license.
Additional Information
All licenses expire on October 31st of each year regardless of the issue date.
If licensed before November 1st, 2012 nurses are required to complete 12 hours of CE including 3 hours related to substance abuse unless exempt for a particular reason.
If licensed on or after November 1st, 2012 nurses are required to complete 3 hours related to substance abuse unless exempt for a particular reason.
