Temporary License Processing
It takes approximately 7-14 business days to receive a temporary license in Ohio after all of the necessary documents have been received by the board and the license will last for up to 180 days (must not have any prior convictions or disciplinary action to obtain).

In Ohio, fingerprint cards are accepted for out of state nursing applicants only and must be accompanied with exemption form.
Nurses must fax or email a written request to the Ohio Board of Nursing for required fingerprint cards.
Temporary licenses are only issued while other required documents are being processed. There are additional steps that must be completed to receive a permanent license.
Renewal & Reinstatement:
- If license was issued on or after September 1st, 2014, renewal requires 12 contact hours with 1 hour related to Ohio law and rules.
- If license was issued on or before September 1st, 2014, renewal requires 24 contact hours with 1 hour related to Ohio law and rules.
- Nurses must contact the board’s renewal unit directly to request required reinstatement information and application as well as CEU requirements.
- Reinstatement applications will be sent 7-10 business days after request is received by the board.
