Temporary License Processing
It takes approximately 2-3 weeks to receive a temporary license in North Carolina after all necessary documents have been received and accepted and the license will last for up to 6 months (must not have any prior convictions or disciplinary action to obtain).

Temporary licenses are only issued while other required documents are being processed. There are additional steps that must be completed to receive a permanent license.
Additional Information
All nurses must complete a background check if license is expired 6 months or more.
Reinstatement:
- 15 contact hours of CE’s & 640 hours of active practice within 2 years
- OR 30 contact hours of CE’s
