Temporary License Processing
It takes approximately 2-4 weeks to receive a temporary license in Indiana after all documents have been received by the board and criminal background check has been completed. Temporary license will last for up to 90 days (must not have any prior convictions or disciplinary action to obtain).

Criminal background check must be completed after the board has received all of the necessary documents and application.
Temporary licenses are only issued while other required documents are being processed. There are additional steps that must be completed to receive a permanent license.
- If license is expired more than 18 months Nurses must contact the board for the appropriate renewal information and steps.
- If license is expired more than 3 years Complete renewal form for expired licenses and include a copy of current active license from another state.
- All licenses expire on October 31st of odd-numbered years regardless of the date it was issued.
