Each city offers unique experiences and attractions, making them excellent destinations if you are looking for your next adventure.

Taos, NM

Taos is a small town located in northern New Mexico and is known for its blend of Native American and Spanish influences. The Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in North America and is a must-visit attraction. The town is also a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering excellent skiing, hiking, and whitewater rafting opportunities. And if you’re a foodie, Taos is the perfect place to indulge in New Mexican cuisine, with traditional dishes like enchiladas and chile rellenos.

Another significant cultural attraction in Taos is the Taos Art Museum at Fechin House. This museum is housed in the former home of the Russian artist, Nicolai Fechin, and showcases a collection of over 7,000 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, and textiles. The museum is a testament to Taos’s long history as an artists’ colony and showcases the works of other influential artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Agnes Martin, and R.C. Gorman.

Carlsbad, NM

Carlsbad is located in the southeastern part of the state and is home to the famous Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Above ground, you can hike and camp in the nearby Guadalupe Mountains National Park or take a dip in the natural mineral springs at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park.

Shiprock, NM

Shiprock is a Navajo community located in the northwest corner of the state and is named after the nearby Shiprock Peak, a towering volcanic rock formation that is sacred to the Navajo people. The town is a great place to learn about Navajo culture and history, and you can visit the Shiprock Chapter House to learn more.

The area is also popular among hikers and rock climbers, with several trails and climbing routes in the surrounding area, best known for its iconic 1,800-foot-tall rock formation. Climbing Shiprock is not for the faint of heart and requires a high level of skill and experience, as well as proper gear and safety equipment. The climb itself can take anywhere from 6 to 10 hours and includes a mix of free climbing, technical climbing, and rappelling. The views from the top are breathtaking, with panoramic vistas of the surrounding desert and mountains. If you are an experienced climber looking for a unique and challenging climb, then Shiprock should definitely be on your list.

Hobbs, NM

Hobbs is located in the southeast corner of the state and is known for its oil industry and excellent golf courses. If you’re a fan of golf, you can hit the links at the Rockwind Community Links, which features an 18-hole championship course designed by Andy Staples. The town also has a thriving arts and culture scene, with the Western Heritage Museum and the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame celebrating the region’s cowboy and ranching heritage.
